Farewell, My Lovely by benthic Farewell, My Lovely by benthic
Illustration project to do a cover for the old Raymond Chandler crime novel "Farewell, My Lovely". I decided to place the setting a little further forward into a grungy Blade Runner/Batman Beyond-esque future, rather than 1940s Los Angeles, and then got inspired again to replicate Paul Pope's style for the whole thing. So, essentially, this project is sort of my way of saying thanks to Pope for all of his great artwork over the years and for continuing to inspire me. The page's layout is leaning on a panel from Pope's "100%", but only as far as "guy looking up at a window" can go. In the bottom left corner are Kim and Strel, from the same story, actually.

I think I like that star-nosed mole fruit punch ad up at the top the most. I've never heard of a starfruit-flavored drink before and I bet that would taste like the FUTURE.
